A carnival has arrived in Las Vegas and is now the center of attention for possible criminal activities. Children are starting to vanish and there's a number of jewelry store thefts involving most mysterious circumstances and expensive goods. Jim is asked by the parents of two missing boys to find them. The only clue he has is the handbill announcing the arrival of "Jacob S. Dark's Traveling Carnival and Wonder Show". To help, Buck and Mac go undercover in the carnival. Who is the mysterious Mr. Dark? Did he jump from the pages of Bradbury's book to claim souls in Vegas or is he evil of another form. Jim must hold on to his soul as he enters the world of the dark carnival. On the side, Angelo uses his mob connections to help find out who the mysterious Lucius Cole is and what his real connection is to the carnival people. All things are not as they seem in this twentieth novel featuring the senior citizen sleuth, Jim Richards along with Penny and his crime fighting friends.

And yes, carnies are very strange, and many times dangerous people.
Enjoy......

Dark Carnival Murders Jim Richards Murder Novels Book 20 edition by Bob Moats Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Dark Carnival Murders kept me involved. 'Enjoyed the cast of characters, their personalities, & how they interacted with each other. It was a "fast" read. Would I recommend this book to others? Yes. Don't expect anything gritty like the Criminal Minds tv series plots & you won't be disappointed.
The characters in this story were interesting and intriguing the scenes and different plots were interesting and the mean characters were awesome
Typical Bob Moats mystery. Easy to read, quick, great airplane book,. Not an award winner, but fills that niche for something quick & easy.
Again again not let down. Enjoyed the story but very glad it turned out good. Kinda makes you think about carnivals!!!!
If you've never read a Jim Richards murder series book, don't read this one first. The author apparently assumes that everyone has read all 19 of the others and gives next to no background about anyone. And as for ongoing characterization -- I predict that you'll finish the book not really caring about anyone in it because not one of these characters speaks in much more than a bunch of off-hand quips, no matter what the subject. It's as if the author has gotten a bit bored with the series after writing so many other books in it, and is now sleepwalking through the entire process.
Great story line. Just have to re-read a few sentences in order for it to make sense. He needs a proof reader. Other than that, his books would be a 5 star. I read them at my leisure and never have to go back and re-read to remember what is going on. Not a real involved plot but a good plot as is all his books.
I have read all of his Jim Richards up to this one and enjoyed them as lite reading. I know writers take artistic license on stories, but this one made me mad when he insisted the police would wait 48 hours to look for missing children. I believe Mr. Moats should stick to the truth when it comes to such an important subject. If he can't write a book without making the main premise of the whole story a complete lie he should ask loyal readers to forgive him. I will think a long time before buying any more of his books.
