A fast paced, edge of your seat adventure/ thriller. Jeb Logan is a freelance pilot who against his better judgement agrees to fly a woman, Monti Bannerman and her teenage son David to a ranchero deep in the Amazon. During the journey they rescue a lone figure who is fleeing from a native attack. A freak accident during the rescue sees the aircraft disabled and the four occupants of the plane are left to try to navigate the river, relentlessly pursued by hostile natives.

Apparently a never before published story, it's quite a tautly written story about survival against insurmountable odds. Not only do the four passengers have to battle a hostile and unforgiving environment there is also the struggle against each other as one of them is battling inner demons and is psychotic.

The strength of this story lies in the vivid descriptions of the jungle, the insects, venomous snakes, piranhas and heat. The battle for survival against the hostile river with rapids and unrelenting rain makes the descriptions almost visceral.
The dynamics amongst the passengers as they struggle for survival is gripping. Well worth a look at.

Angels' Fall Frank Herbert 9781614750581 Books Reviews

WordFire Press was able to find this previously unpublished novel from the celebrated author of Dune, with the blessing of the Frank Herbert estate. Back in the 1970's, there were quite a few thrilling action-adventure yarns, and Frank whipped up a fascinating entry. It's a solid tale, written before Dune, based in the jungles of the .

The story revolves around a pilot who may be a bit down on his luck, a movie starlet and her son (traveling to see her husband and the father of the young lad), and a strange gentleman who has more than a few screws loose. When things go wrong, it turns out there may be something more deadly riding in the floatplane than lurking in the jungle.

Frank does an admirable job pitting the cast against each other. The tension mounts as we begin to wonder when the psychopath is going to snap -- and snap he does.

If you enjoy thrillers and action/adventure tales, you'll enjoy Frank's lost novel. Recommended.
Incredibly detailed story on the jungle pioneers of South America. No "Dune-hints yet, but fascinating and rich in describing the 4 persons and their relations.
I am big Herbert fan but it shows that this book was written early in his career. The dialog isn't as good as his usual. The characters are not as deeply described. But still the book is worth reading.
